Economy Beachfront Lot, Pleasant Bay, South Andros

This lot has a coconut grove with palms a few years old to 80 plus years old. Pleasant Bay is as the name suggests nothing short of pleasant. This settlement on South Andros has a population of about thirty 30 people and plenty if that. The community overlooks the Toungue of The Ocean (Atlantic Ocean). Miles of serene bonefish flats with water to your knees run to the barrier reef and then drops eight thousand feet into an abyss called the Tongue of Ocean. A diver's paradise and an anglers dream (bonefish, permit, barracudas, jacks, snappers, groupers, tuna, mai mai, wahoo, sailfish). This lot has electricty telephone and water. The lot measures 17,251 square feet with 90 feet on the beach. Asking Price $82,000

Buttonwood Cay at the mouth of the South Bight is for sale!

Buttonwood Cay sits at the mouth of the South Bight on the east coast of Andros Island. The fishing around its shores is prolific. During my ten years of guiding I have witnessed some of the largest bones around Andros feeding on the flats of this little 12.4 acre island. It makes sense because the Tongue of The Ocean is less than a few thousand feet away. These fish are ocean bones. I have also guided numerous anglers who had opportunities casting at double digit mutton snappers feeding on the shores of Buttonwood Cay. The surrounding beaches are best at high tide and they are truly spectacular for relaxing and swimming. Asking price $12.5 Million

November is Andros Island Most Favorable Bonefishing month of the year.

Bonefishing experts agree that the month of November is the most favorable time for the sport in the Bahamas. You might ask, why is this? Well, climate has a lot to do with the facts for most favourable time to bonefish.

The average air temperature in the Bahamas during the month of November is seventy eight point five (78.5) degrees and the saltwater flats is slightly a few degrees warmer. Experts suggest that this is ideal temperature for bonefishing. Past research studies have pointed out that bonefish is very sensitive to warm waters (90 degrees+) as well as cooler waters (70 degrees-).

I must point out that the Bahamas is subject to spates of coldfronts during the Winter months of the year coming off the Florida peninsula. Temperatures during the day sometimes drop into the sixties with windspeeds of fifteen to twenty miles per hour. While this is gorgeous weather for vistors and locals after hot Summer temperatures it is tough for a fly fisherman trying to cast a fly with a bonefish rod.

Andros Tid Bits

Anyone considering purchasing property on Andros? It is a naturalist paradise, measuring more that 2,300 square miles across the Great Bahama Bank and has the largest concentration of mangroves and the third largest barrier reef in the Western Hemisphere.

The island's divided by three large bodies of water commonly referred to as “bights”, the Southern Bight, Middle Bight and Northern Bight. As a result, technically the're three island virtually separated by a thin sliver of light emerald blue water running through the island that provide a view similar to the Good Book's expression of "Peace Like A River" winding through the Garden of Eden.

Because Andros is the largest island in the Bahamas and one of the least populated there are areas which provides a viewer of what the Bahamas and perhaps our beloved planet look like a million or more years ago.

However, all of the settlements on Andros are situated on the east coast of the island except for the small settlement of Red Bays found on the northern western coast of Andros which was originally founded by Seminole Indians around the era of the American Civil War.

It's quite engaging that of all the islands found in the Bahamas, Andros has the most abundant natural resources. It is a source of abundant natural spring water which provides our capital, Nassau with more than six million gallons per day. The vast pine forest and variety of hardwood trees are the largest selection found in the Bahamas and the northern section of the island has the best available soil for farming in the Bahamas. The American transplanted religious sect, the Mennonites has some of the most successful farms producing citrus and vegetables for the Florida market annually.

Andros has a large number of fishing lodges spread across the island and a few dive lodges (Small Hope Bay Dive Lodge at Blanket Sound & Sea Scape Inn on Mangrove Cay) as well. There are a few well known resorts spread across the island as well. Kamalame Cay, a private island resort is situated at Stanidard Creek, The Andros Lighthouse Club & Marina is at Fresh Creek and the Emerald Palms Hotel & Beach Villas is located at Congo Town.

There are lots to do on Andros and here's where I recommend you reach out to find them-

Fishing:-

Whether you are a fly fisherman chasing bone fish or a light tackle enthusiast , or a deep drop seeker or bluewater fisherman you’re not at a lost wherever you purchase property on Andros. The island has a rich marine life and is not short on quality fishing. Never mind there is only one proper serviced marina on Andros which is at the Lighthouse Club at Fresh Creek . Most residents keep the boats moored in the numerous creeks, bights or trailer when necessary to a ramp; having said that visiting yachters' and sport fishermen could be found anchored anywhere in the middle, south or northern bights after a day on the water.
Diving:-

The entire island is a diver’s paradise, whether you enjoy diving the deep wall at the “Tongue of The Ocean, one of the many blue holes or the Andros barrier reef which stretches the entire coast there is no reason to dive the same spot more than once unless you want to do so.

Beaches:-

Most people who visit Andros perhaps and never visit the coastal areas think that the island is short on beautiful beaches when compared to islands like Exuma and The Abacos. If you want to see some of the most beautiful beaches I suggest visiting South Andros , in particular Kemp’s Bay. While South Andros has perhaps some of the most amazing coastal views to be found in the Bahamas arguably the're other areas of Andros that have nice beaches . I find Evans Bay near the regatta site at North Andros to be quite and invigorating beach, Stafford Creek is another typical attractive beach when compared with any beach in the Bahamas. The private resort island at Kamalame Cay has quite a few miles of breathless beach. Mangrove Cay has some phenomenal beaches as well as the various small islands around Mangrove Cay and the Bights of Andros.

More to come......
